Remember, back when we were younger, there was this whole F4 era, where absolutely EVERYONE looooveeeed them and wouldnt stop TALKING about them and their faces appeared on all.. well..
I missed out on that. Since everyone was SOOOOO in love with them, i just couldnt help myself but be rebellious and not give a shit about them. (the same as i did to JayChou) Somehow in those days it was just coooool to me to go 'F4? i dont care...' XD instead of 'REALLY!?! OMIGOD' *swoons*
I remember how everyone was so CRAAAAZY over ZaiZai
*ahem*
I didnt think so then, i still dont think so now. XD Anyway, the other day i was BORED and thought of watching some taiwanese series and i dont know why, but the name METEOR GARDEN popped up in my head, so i thought, y'know, why not? Since everyone loved it so much back then, im sure it must've been SOMETHING. So i watched all 27 episodes in 3 days.
My verdict?
Not so good.
It totally feeds on Girls being ROMANTICS, thats how the show sells. It really wasnt much at all, in fact it got SOOO annoying at times you just feel like you want to STOP WATCHING but you cant cause you're already HALFWAY THROUGH. *grrs* Anyway, the main character was..
a BADBOY
...and badboys somehow always appeals to girls
a RICH ASS
(who loves the girl like crazy)
...and rich asses (SUPER IN LOVE) LAGI appeals to girls
and they had so many scenes of the guy confessing to the girl of HOW MUCH HE LOOOVES her and would GO TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH for her, how he would do ANYTHING for her, and would FOLLOW HER WHEREVER SHE WOULD GO even if it meant to hell *hahahah*. The director even went as far as to put in a kidnapping scene and the guy getting beat up for the girl, cause you know,
Girls dig things like that.
OOOH! MACHO HERO!
And then he had to be all GREAT and go 'If i die, i dont want you to be sad for me' OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. =___=" Oh and to add more to the sweet factor, the guy had to be SUPER HOT that all other girls SWOOON over him but he only has eyes for her and would treat everyone else like shit.
The show would have been fine had it just been
Him realising he likes her --> process of him chasing her --> Her falling for him --> together-gether forever --> END OF STORY.
But NUUUUOOOHHH.
It had to be
Him realising he likes her --> her liking his best friend --> Him chasing her --> Her falling for him but not realising it --> Him confessing to her --> Her shouting at him ALL THE TIME --> Them kinda broken up (not that they were even together) --> Him making effort and chasing her somemore --> Her being confused with her feelings --> His mother coming into the picture and hating her --> Her mother trying to break them up --> Her breaking his heart AGAIN --> Him being sad AGAIN --> Someone else coming into the picture and making her CONFUSED --> Her FINALLY realising how she feels --> FINALLY getting together --> mother interferes AGAIN --> Finallly. together at last --> End.
They kinda like FIGHT and sort of break up at least three times throughout the show. It makes you feel so annoooyed cause the same thing is happening again and again and AGAIN. Gets so SIIIEEEEN. but what REALLY made the series a turn off was that
HE HIT HER
not just ONCE either.
People who are completely infatuated with him was obviously ON HIS side (commenters) trying to justify the act, stating that HE WAS ANGRY. SHE WAS BEING STUPID. I WOULD HAVE SLAPPED HER IF I WAS HIM TOO.
THE HELL?!
A guy should NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER x infinity hit a girl/lady/woman. Gives me the impression that hes going to be a Wifebeater in the future, and thats a SCARY thought.
I honestly dont know what the directors were thinking. Then again, the series was an adaptation from a japanese manga and maybe it was like that in the manga, but STILL. =__=" The director should have KNOWN better. Grrr!
Anyway, for some odd reason, i prefer The guy with PINEAPPLE hair, than with his hair down
Gives him more character. XD
Though at first i really thought it was ugly.
I think, if you have not watched 'Meteor Garden', dont bother. Waste of time. Instead, direct your attention to
'1 Litre of tears'
